Divinity: Original Sin 2 Sells Over 1M Copies

Divinity: Original Sin 2 – the crowdfunded RPG from Larian Studios – has passed 1 million lifetime sales. The game released in September, but before that it had spent a year in Steam Early Access, which accounted for about a third of its sales.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Larian Studios owner Swen Vicks said that it took the first game two-to-three months to hit 500,000. This means the sequel doubled that milestone in a similar time-frame.

The game launched its Kickstarter campaign in August 2015. Within 12 hours, Larian hit their goal of $500,000 USD. All stretch goals were eventually met, and the campaign managed to raise over $2 million USD from over 42,000 backers.

A well deserved milestone. Their move to kickstarter for the initial funding and independent publishing giving them full control of content has meant their games have gone from strength to strength. As a company they are right up there with CDPR when it comes to showing how it can be done.
