Classic Counter-Strike Map Dust2 Gets Tweaked by Valve

One of the most iconic multiplayer maps in gaming is undergoing some changes. Valve announced that they’re updating the Dust2 map in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with some significant visual upgrades.

“Perhaps the quintessential CS:GO map, Dust II has been a classic since its original release,” the developer wrote on official site. “The map captures the essence of CS and in this new release we wanted to honor its pure form while buffing away the jagged edges.”

Major goals for the update include:

  • Improve player readability throughout the map
  • Refine movement around the world including cover
  • Upgrade the visuals to be in line with modern maps

For a rundown of the changes – including side-by-side comparisons – head over here. Players can opt-in to the CS:GO beta build to try out the map before it releases.

Dust2 released for the original Counter-Strike in 2001. Since then, it’s appeared in each mainline release.
