E3 Predictions: Third Party Publishers

E3 Predictions: Third Party Publishers

E3, that glorious week-long event which sees gamers from across the globe come together to get excited for, discuss, and celebrate this awesome hobby we all love and share. And what’s the one thing that makes the week even better? Guessing what’s going to be there of course! So, with the first conference only a few days away, I figure now is probably a good time to start talking about things we hope to see on the major stages.

I have absolutely zero insider knowledge. Everything that follows is based purely on my personal wish list, mixed with a little guess work. For the more out there hopes and guesses I’ll do my best to give some thought as to why I think it’s time for that entry.

Without further ado, let’s get started.

Electronic Arts

Conference held on Sunday 11th June @ 7:00am NZ Time

Hopes and Wishes!

  • We will find out more about the Star Wars title that Amy Hennig and Jade Raymond have been working on for the last few years with Visceral Games and Motive Studios.
    • It will be a 3rd-person action/adventure title, and will play like a sci-fi Uncharted meets Assassin’s Creed.
    • The main character will not be a Jedi, or at least not an obvious force user for a large portion of the game - think Kyle Katarn in Dark Forces; a former Imperial Officer-turned-Merc who discovers he has Force powers in Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2.
    • Please let this be the new-in-official-canon introduction of Kyle!
    • Please don’t let this be something to do with Boba Fett.
  • SimWorld? SimCountry?
    • The SimCity revival didn’t really light the world on fire, so why not give us a chance to make the world how we see fit, and have players run a country and combat things on a global scale? I’m not talking about a return of the 90s SimEarth or SimLife IPs which focused on you controlling planets and genetics, I’m talking about players building a country of their own – kind of like Civilization, but with a Sim-spin.
  • A Multiplatform Star Wars VR flight simulator.
    • Take the tiny Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission, and make a full campaign and multiplayer with it, and bring it to all platforms that can make use of VR.

What I think we’ll actually see

  • Bioware's new action game will officially be announced.
    • It’ll be a totally new IP
    • It will be in the same space as games like Destiny, The Division, and Ghost Recon: Wildlands – not MMOs, but online-only shared environments with a campaign playable in both co-op and solo.
  • Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, and Mass Effect Andromeda DLC
  • More information and gameplay footage for the already announced new Need for Speed: Payback
  • Information on the latest updates for this year’s sports entries.
  • The Sims 5
    • It’s coming to consoles too

Conference held on Monday 12th June @ 4:00pm NZ Time

Hopes and Wishes!

  • Quake Champions info dump
    • We get the official release date; August 2017
    • id and Bethesda get on-stage and talk about how they want a thriving mod community, which means they will be supporting custom character models, skins, modes, and total conversions.
  • Now I know people love their Fallouts and Skyrims, but I would love a break from them, and for Todd n’ co. to bring us a brand new, unexpected RPG IP. Really blow our socks away.

What I think we’ll actually see

  • We find out what Wolfenstein: The New Colossus is
    • Along with a release date, story trailer, and a few minutes of explained gameplay
  • The Elder Scrolls VI announced
    • Early 2018 release date
    • A tie-in mini-game like Fallout Shelter that has you running a fighters, thieves or mages guild.
  • The Evil Within 2 announced
    • If P.T. and Resident Evil 7 are anything to go by, then people love to have the bejesus scared outta them, so why not give the next Evil Within some VR support.
  • Official VR mode for Doom
    • Because hellish first person demon-slaying action can only get better with room-scale waving of wands that look like guns while wearing a headset.

Conference held on Tuesday 13th June @ 8:00am NZ Time

Hopes and Wishes!

  • New Splinter Cell announced
    • With Michael Ironside returning as Sam Fisher
  • A new Brothers in Arms title announced
    • It’s been too long since we’ve seen a decent World War 2 title, and although developer Gearbox are hard-core into Borderlands and Battleborn, it would be nice to jump back into this kind of story. And we all know that companies magically mirror each other, so with Activision doing Call of Duty: WW2, surely there’ll be another game set in that period – why not this?
  • Child of Light 2
    • The first game was a great little title, why not return to that world?
    • And while they’re at it, they might as well give us a Q3 2017 release date.

What I think we’ll actually see

  • More information and gameplay footage for the already announced Far Cry 5
  • Just Dance 2018
  • For Honor, Rainbow 6: Siege, The Division, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and Steep DLC
  • An official reveal trailer, and gameplay footage for the new Assassin’s Creed
    • Will release this year
    • As the rumours and shirt leaks show, it will be set in Egypt
    • If I had it my way – and this should be classed more as a hope – the story trailer would also tease the return of Desmond Miles

So those are what I think the major third party publishers will showcase on their E3 stages. Agree? Disagree? Can’t wait to read what you all think is just around the corner, so sound off in the comments below, and lets all get excited about the coming week of awesome!

Updated: Bethesda conference time corrected. Cheers Outlaw213.

Ooo its almost time!

btw Bethesda's conference is actually 4pm not 2pm. According to their invitation, it says June 11th 9pm PT which is 4pm for NZ (http://i.imgur.com/3UYIuie.jpg)

This one is definitely a wish but after getting Star Wars The Force Unleashed 1 and 2 on GWG I really wish they would do a sequel. And an Alan Wake sequel.
